TESTING WASTEWATER

testing.jpeg

Goleta Sanitary District is part of a state-wide initiative aimed at testing wastewater for the presence of viruses, including those responsible for respiratory illnesses, the flu, and SARS-CoV-2 (COVID). This collaborative effort, organized as the CalSuWers group under the California Department of Public Health, underscores our commitment to safeguarding the health of our community and enhancing our response to potential public health threats. The state-wide testing program aims to monitor viral loads in wastewater as a proactive measure to identify outbreaks before they escalate. By analyzing samples collected from wastewater treatment facilities across the state, health officials can gain valuable insights into the prevalence of viruses in the community, allowing for timely interventions and resource allocation.
